Intercommunity Action Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Intercommunity Action Inc. (“Interact”) regarding its recent data breach. The Interact data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 2,600 individuals.

ABOUT INTERCOMMUNITY ACTION INC.:

Interact is a human service organization based in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1969, Interact provides a range of assistance services to older adults, people with disabilities, and individuals and families seeking behavioral health services, offering services such as health and wellness programs for older adults, residential programs, employment support, behavioral health counseling through the Greenridge Counseling Center, and more.2,4 Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Interact employs over 400 individuals and offers services to individuals and families throughout Northwest Pennsylvania.3,5

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Interact announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on May 29, 2025, Interact learned that an unauthorized actor gained access to its computer network and obtained certain files.1 As a result, Interact launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Interact confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between May 28 and May 29, 2025. As a result, Interact began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Driver’s license number
  • State identification number
  • Bank account information
  • Credit card number
  • Other financial information
  • Protected health information (claims information, diagnosis/conditions, medications, other treatment information)

 

On September 26, 2025, Interact posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, Interact filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.6  Based on the website breach notice, Interact is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
