Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Norway Savings Bank (“NSB”) regarding its recent data breach. The NSB data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 50,000 individuals.
ABOUT NORWAY SAVINGS BANK:
NSB is a mutual banking and financial services company based in Maine. Founded in 1866, NSB offers banking services to businesses and individuals such as digital banking, checking and savings accounts, mortgages, business loans, cash management, and more.3 As of December 31, 2023, NSB had $1.865 billion in total assets.4 Headquartered in Norway, Maine, NSB provides financial services to over 38,000 households in western and southern Maine through 24 branches and 25 ATM locations.4
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, NSB reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on August 14, 2025, a security incident occurred at a third-party data services provider of NSB.1 As a result, NSB launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, NSB confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to customers of NSB may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, NSB began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Tax identification number
- Financial account information
On November 21, 2025, NSB began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, NSB is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
