WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Co-op Credit Union reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Co-op Credit Union discovered that an unauthorized party temporarily gained access to one of its employee email accounts.1 As a result, Co-op Credit Union launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Co-op Credit Union confirmed that the sensitive personal information in the affected email account may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party between April 8 and April 18, 2025.1 As a result, Co-op Credit Union began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:4
- Name
- Social Security number
- Credit or debit card numbers
As a result of the breach, Co-op Credit Union began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
