WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AP Air reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on July 14, 2025, AP Air learned of suspicious activity on certain systems in its environment.1 As a result, AP Air launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AP Air confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party on July 13, 2025.1 As a result, AP Air began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. As of October 7, 2025, the type of information impacted in the breach has not been made publicly available by AP Air.¹ However, according to Montana state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, state identification number, or tribal identification number
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical record information
- Taxpayer identification number
- An identity protection personal identification number issued by the United States internal revenue service
As a result of the breach, AP Air began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice being sent to Montana residents, AP Air is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the letters that AP Air filed with the Attorney General of Montana is below.
