Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Moore & Van Allen PLLC (“MVA”) regarding its recent data breach. The MVA data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

MVA is law firm based in North Carolina. Founded in 1950, MVA provides legal representation across a wide variety of practice areas such as corporate, financial services, commercial real estate, health care, manufacturing, retail, individual health management, and technology .2 Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, MVA employs over 500 individuals and has an additional location in Charleston, South Carolina.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MVA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on August 15, 2025, MVA determined that an unauthorized actor accessed its systems.1 As a result, MVA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MVA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, MVA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 3, 2025, MVA completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On October 3, 2025, MVA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, MVA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
