WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Lowe reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around August 18, 2025, Lowe became aware of potential unauthorized access into its network that impacted certain systems.1 As a result, Lowe launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Lowe confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party on August 17, 2025.1 As a result, Lowe began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 2, 2025, Lowe completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes: 7
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account information
On September 23, 2025, Lowe began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice being sent to Montana residents, Lowe is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services. 1 A link to the letters that Lowe filed with the Attorney General of Montana is below.
