WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Lindstrom reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, in May 2025, Lindstrom learned that a limited number of potentially fraudulent tax returns had been filed using information of a limited number of its clients, which was related to suspicious activity in its network.1 As a result, Lindstrom launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Lindstrom confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its care may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach.1 As a result, Lindstrom began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
As a result of the breach, Lindstrom began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice being sent to Massachusetts residents, Lindstrom is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the letters that Lindstrom filed with the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is below.
