Benworth is a private money lender based in Florida. Founded in 2008, Benworth provides hard money loans to purchase or refinance residential and commercial property.3 Headquartered Coral Gables, Florida, Benworth employs over 30 individuals and has a second office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Benworth reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on May 18, 2025, Benworth experienced a cybersecurity incident in which an unauthorized actor accessed components of Benworth’s system through a third-party service prodiver.1 As a result, Benworth launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Benworth confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on or about May 16, 2025.1 As a result, Benworth began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Employer identification number
- Loan account number
- Loan information (maturity date, closing date, loan amount)
- Phone number and address
On September 16, 2025, Benworth began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice being sent to California residents, Benworth is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services. 1 A link to the letters that Benworth filed with the Attorney General of California is below.
