WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Cornwell reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on December 20, 2024, Cornwell became aware of unusual activity within its computer network.1 As a result, Cornwell launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Cornwell confirmed that the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on or around December 12, 2024.1 As a result, Cornwell began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 4, 2024, Cornwell completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes: 4

- Social Security number
- Financial account information
- Driver’s license number
- Medical information
On September 4, 2025, Cornwell began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
