WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Academic Urology announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about May 22, 2025, Academic Urology experienced a data security incident.1 As a result, Academic Urology launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its ongoing investigation, Academic Urology confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its system may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach.1 As a result, Academic Urology began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Driver’s license number or government-issued identification number
- Tribal identification card
- Passport number
- Individual’s taxpayer identification number or an identity protection personal identification number
- Credit card information
- Health information (appeals records, diagnosis/conditions information, lab results, medications, etc.)
- Health insurance information
As a result of the breach, Academic Urology posted notice of the breach to its website.
