Founded in 1988, The Gatesworth Communities provides residents with an independent living community that offers housing, dining, cultural and educational activities, fitness and wellness facilities, and more.2 Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, The Gatesworth Communities employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, The Gatesworth Communities reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around February 5, 2025, The Gatesworth Communities identified suspicious activity on systems in its network.1 As a result, The Gatesworth Communities launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, The Gatesworth Communities confirmed that the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between January 22 and January 26, 2025.5 As a result, The Gatesworth Communities began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes: 4

- Social Security number
- Financial account numbers
- Driver’s license number
- Medical records
On August 26, 2025, The Gatesworth Communities began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Additionally, The Gatesworth Communities posted notice of the data breach on its website.
