Founded in 1950, Father Joe’s Villages is a non-profit homeless service provider based in California. 3 Father Joe’s Villages provides housing and health services to homeless residents, housing more than 2,000 people nightly.3 The services provided by Father Joe’s Villages include detox and recovery facilities, medical and primary care, therapeutic childcare, housing and shelter programs, vocational training and employment services, and more.2 Headquartered in San Diego, California, Father Joe’s Villages employs over 500 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, SVDP reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on July 29, 2025, SVDP concluded its investigation into the breach.1 Through this investigation, SVDP confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between September 26 and October 12, 2024.1 As a result, SVDP began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:4
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On August 29, 2025, SVDP began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Additionally, SVDP posted notice of the breach on the Father Joe’s Villages website. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, SVDP is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the breach notice that SVDP shared on the Father Joe’s Villages website is below.
