WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, DMH announced that the debt collection agency, Nationwide Recovery Services, Inc. (“NRS”) experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 NRS provides debt collection services to DMH.1 According to the breach notice, NRS informed DMH on February 7, 2025, that an unauthorized party gained access to and copied files and folder from the NRS computer network between July 5 and July 11, 2024. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Financial account information
- Medical information
As a result of the data breach, on July 25, 2025, DMH posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website notice, DMH is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
