CRM Residential Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Community Realty Management, Inc. d/b/a CRM Residential, regarding its recent data breach. The CRM Residential data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 11,000 individuals.

ABOUT COMMUNITY REALTY MANAGEMENT, INC. D/B/A CRM RESIDENTIAL:

CRM Residential is a real estate company in New Jersey. Founded in 1974, CRM Residential has served the Northeast, Midwest, and U.S. Virgin Islands for over 50 years.4 Headquartered in Pleasantville, New Jersey, CRM Residential manages over 8,000 apartments valued at over a billion dollars and employs over 300 individuals. 4,5

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, CRM Residential reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice, CRM Residential recently became aware of unusual activity in its email tenant.1 As a result, CRM Residential launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, CRM Residential determined that certain email accounts may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between September 10 and October 22, 2024.1 As a result, CRM Residential began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On April 14, 2025, CRM Residential completed its investigation. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Financial account information
  • Health records
  • Health insurance information

 

On August 11, 2025, CRM Residential began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, CRM Residential is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
