WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Sabine County Hospital posted that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on February 12, 2025, Sabine County Hospital discovered that an employee’s email account had been accessed by an unauthorized individual or entity. 1 As a result, Sabine County Hospital launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Sabine County Hospital revealed that patient information, contained in internal logs and reports, was present within some of the compromised emails.1 As a result, Sabine County Hospital began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Medical information (e.g. date of service, services received, gender, clinical information, tests, treatments)
- Health insurance information
- Financial account information
