Headquartered in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Highlands Oncology has five additional locations serving Northwest Arkansas and employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Highlands Oncology announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on June 2, 2025, Highlands Oncology discovered it was the victim of a cyber-attack, and certain of its files and systems were inaccessible.1 As a result, Highlands Oncology launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Highlands Oncology confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between January 21, 2025, and June 2, 2025. As a result, Highlands Oncology began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state identification number
- Passport number
- Financial account number
- Credit and/or debit card number
- Medical treatment information
- Medical record number
- Patient account number
- Health insurance policy information
As a result of the data breach, Highlands Oncology posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on August 1, 2025, Highlands Oncology began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Maine residents, Highlands Oncology is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
