WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 1, 2025, UDFD announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice posted on its website, on May 13, 2025, UDFD discovered that an unauthorized party gained access to its computer systems and deployed malicious software that encrypted its data.1 As a result, UDFD launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, UDFD confirmed that sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. 1 As a result, UDFD began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:3
- Name
- Social Security Number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Phone number
- Dental Medical Records
As a result of the data breach, UDFD began providing notice to impacted individuals. Based on the notice sent to Vermont residents, UDFD is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.3 A link to the breach report filed by the Attorney General of Vermont is below.
