Founded in 2013 by the merger of four obstetrics and gynecology practice groups, Mid America Physician Services provides general dermatology, surgical dermatology, and medical asthetics.2 Today, there are four divisions of the Mid America Physician Services practice: Johnson County Ob/GYN, Women’s Care, Women’s Clinic of Johnson County, and Women’s Health Associates.2 With locations in Merriam, Overland Park, and Leawood, Kansas, Mid America Physician Services serves the Kansas City-area.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Mid America Physician Services announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on November 14, 2024, Mid America Physician Services discovered a network incident impacting its IT systems.As a result, Mid America Physician Services launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Mid America Physician Services confirmed that sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised during the breach. 3 As a result, Mid America Physician Services began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. Around May 8, 2025, Mid America Physician Services concluded its investigation. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Address
  • Financial information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

On July 15, 2025, Mid America Physician Services posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, the Attorney General of Texas’ Data Security Breach Report notes that affected individuals are being notified by mail.
