Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Integrated Oncology Network (“ION”) regarding its recent data breach. The ION data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.
ABOUT INTEGRATED ONCOLOGY NETWORK:
ION is a private oncology practice based in Tennessee. Specializing in cancer treatment, ION provides diagnostic testing, radiation oncology, medical oncology, urology and ancillary services.2 In 2024, ION was acquired by Cardinal Health, a physician-led independent community oncology network.3 Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, ION has a network of 49 centers in 14 states.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ION reported on its website that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice posted on its website, ION learned that an email phishing incident resulted in unauthorized access to patient information in email and SharePoint accounts. 1 As a result, ION launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ION confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach between December 13 and December 16, 2024. 1 As a result, ION began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Financial account information
- Medical information (e.g., diagnosis, lab results, medication, provider names, dates of treatment)
- Health insurance and claims information
As a result of the data breach, ION posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on June 13, 2025, ION began notifying impacted individuals.
