Established in 1963, AAMCO provides transmission repair, total car care, and fleet services to customers across the United States and Canada.2 Today, AAMCO ‘s services include transmission repair, brake services, tune-ups, and general vehicle maintenance.2 Headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania, AAMCO operates a network of over 600 independently owned and operated service centers.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AAMCO reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on April 16, 2025, AAMCO identified unusual activity on its computer network.1 As a result, AAMCO launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AAMCO confirmed that an unauthorized third party had gained access to sensitive personal information on servers in its network between April 11 and April 16, 2025. As a result, AAMCO began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On May 21, 2025, AAMCO completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
On June 20, 2025, AAMCO began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, AAMCO is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
