Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (“ACPHS”) regarding its recent data breach. The ACPHS data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to approximately 28,600 individuals.3

ACPHS is a private university located in Albany, New York. Founded in 1881, ACPHS offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs focusing on pharmacy and health sciences.2 Today, ACPHA offers programs including Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Technology, and more.4 With a student body of over 800 students, ACPHS employs over 200 faculty members.4,5
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ACPHS announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice it posted on its website, on September 14, 2024, ACPHS detected unusual activity on their network.1 As a result, ACPHS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ACPHS confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between approximately August 31, 2024, and September 14, 2024.1 As a result, ACPHS began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name (including mother’s maiden name)
- Social Security number
- Financial information (account number, routing number, security code, payment card number, and payment card expiration date)
- Date of birth
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Digital signature
- Passport number, government identification number, taxpayer identification number, and driver’s license number
- Alien registration number
- Username and password
- Health insurance information
- Medical information (medical record number, mental or physical condition, diagnosis/treatment information, procedure type, provider name, prescription information, and biometric data)
- Student Information
As a result of the data breach, on or around June 16, 2025, ACPHS began notifying impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, ACPHS is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.3 A link to the breach notification letters that ACPHS filed with the Attorney General of Maine is below.
