LG&W Federal Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating LG&W Federal Credit Union (“LGWFCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The LGWFCU data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT LG&W FEDERAL CREDIT UNION:

LGWFCU is a credit union based in Tennessee. Today, LGWFCU offers a variety of financial services and products to individuals, including checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, auto, personal, and home loans, investment services, mobile banking services, and more. Although LGWFCU operates out of a single location, through its co-op ATM and shared branch network, members have access to more than 5,600 branches and 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs across the country.2 LGWFCU is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, LGWFCU reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, in November 2024, LGWFCU identified suspicious network activity that disrupted its network.1 As a result, LGWFCU launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, LGWFCU confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on or around November 6, 2024. As a result, LGWFCU began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Financial account number

As a result of the data breach, LGWFCU recently began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, LGWFCU is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services. A link to the form breach notification letters that LGWFCU filed with the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is below.
