Harbin Clinic Data Breach Investigation

Harbin Clinic is a privately owned, multi-specialty physician group based in Georgia. Founded in 1872, Harbin Clinic has 250 healthcare providers representing more than 40 different medical specialties in 21 practice locations throughout Northwest Georgia including Rome, Cartersville, Calhoun, Cedartown, Acworth, Adairsville, Armuchee and Summerville.3 Today, Harbin Clinic provides a range of healthcare services, such as family medicine, immediate care, internal medicine, pediatric care, women’s health, and clinical labs, in addition to specialty care services.4 Headquartered in Rome, Georgia, Harbin Clinic employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Harbin Clinic announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, in July 2024, Harbin Clinic’s third-party vendor, Nationwide Recovery Service (“NRS”), became aware of a cybersecurity issue involving its network environment.1 As a result, NRS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, NRS confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to Harbin Clinic patients may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between July 5 and July 11, 2024. As a result, Harbin Clinic began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account information
  • Guarantor information
  • Medical related information

 

As a result of the breach, Harbin Clinic posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on May 16, 2025, Harbin Clinic began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Harbin Clinic is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
