Bosque School Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT BOSQUE SCHOOL:

Bosque School is an independent college preparatory school based in New Mexico. Founded in 1994, Bosque School admits students in grades 6-12, divided into middle school and upper school. With an average class size of 14 students, Bosque School has a 6:1 student to teacher ratio and has a total enrollment of approximately 380 students.2 Located in Alburquerque, New Mexico, Bosque School employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Bosque School reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around October 8, 2024, Bosque School became aware of suspicious activity on its computer network1 As a result, Bosque School launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident. 

Through its investigation, Bosque School confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and downloaded by an unauthorized third party between October 3 and October 7, 2024. As a result, Bosque School began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Bosque School. However, according to Maine state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes

 

On May 16, 2025, Bosque School began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Bosque Schoolis providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
