DUO Broadband Data Breach Investigation

DUO Broadband is a telecommunications and entertainment company offering services to both individuals and businesses in Kentucky.2 As a telephone and internet service provider, DUO Broadband offers fiber-optic internet, TV streaming, and land-line telephone services.2 Headquartered in Jamestown, Kentucky, DUO Broadband has been serving the Kentucky area for over 70 years and employs approximately 25 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, DUO Broadband reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on February 13, 2025, DUO Broadband became aware of a data security incident in which a cyber threat actor attempted to disrupt its systems.1 As a result, DUO Broadband launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on March 17, 2025, DUO Broadband confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to customers in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, DUO Broadband began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth

 

On May 15, 2025, DUO Broadband began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, DUO Broadband is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
