WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Hackard Law reported to the Attorney General of Maine that sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on November 12, 2024, Hackard Law discovered an incident involving unauthorized access to two employee email accounts.1 As a result, Hackard Law launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Hackard Law confirmed that the unauthorized actor may have accessed the emails at various times before May 19, 2024, and between May 21 and July 21, 2024.1 As a result, Hackard Law began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

- Social Security number
On April 21, 2025, Hackard Law began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals and posted notice on its website. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Hackard Law is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
