DaVita is a healthcare company based in Colorado. Founded in 2000, DaVita specializes in dialysis and end stage kidney disease treatment.2 Today, DaVita has over 200,000 dialysis patients and offers a range of treatments, including home and in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, in-center nocturnal dialysis, skilled nursing services, and kidney transplant services.3,4 Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, DaVita employs over 55,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On April 12, 2025, DaVita discovered that it had experienced a data security incident. In response, DaVita launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident. During the initial stages of its investigation, DaVita discovered that the incident involved a ransomware attack that encrypted certain elements of its networks.1 Additionally, some of DaVita’s operations were impacted by the breach and a timetable for their restoration remains unclear.1 On April 12, 2025, DaVita reported the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. As of April 17, 2025, DaVita’s investigation is ongoing and further details have not been made publicly available by DaVita.
