NGHS is a healthcare system based in Georgia. Founded in 1951, NGHS provides patients with access to more than 700 physicians and over 60 specialists, as well as multiple clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies.2 Today, NGHS has facilities designated to treat patients in rehabilitation, long term care, mental health and substance abuse, and those with heart issues or cancer.3 Headquartered in Gainesville, Georgia, NGHS has over 50 locations and employs over 10,000 individuals.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, NGHS discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its servers may have been accessed. On April 8, 2025, NGHS filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the NGHS breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the NGHS breach included the protected health information belonging to 21,000 individuals.1 As a result of the data breach, NGHS may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
