Today, AACOM serves more than 35,000 future physicians across 35 states.3 AACOM is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and employs over 50 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AACOM reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on September 26, 2024, AACOM discovered suspicious activity within an employee email account.1 As a result, AACOM launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AACOM confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and taken by an unauthorized third party on during the breach.1 As a result, AACOM began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify specific individuals affected. On March 31, 2025, AACOM completed this review.1 While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On April 8, 2025, AACOM began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, AACOM is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit and cyber monitoring services.
