First City is a credit union based in California. WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, First City reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, First City recently detected a data security incident that involved an unauthorized party gaining access to a portion of its email environment.1 As a result, First City launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, First City confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between November 18 and November 20, 2024. As a result, First City began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Driver’s license number
On March 26, 2024, First City began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, First City is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
