Tempel Steel Data Breach Investigation

Recently, Tempel reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on February 6, 2025, Tempel detected unusual activity within its network that caused certain devices to become unavailable.¹ As a result, Tempel launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Tempel confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between February 6 and February 7, 2025. As a result, Tempel began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

• Name
• Social Security number
• Date of birth
• Driver’s license or state issued identification card number
• Passport number
• Tax identification number
• Financial account information
• Payment card information
• Health information
• Health insurance information

As a result of the data breach, Tempel began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Tempel is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
