Olinsky Law Group Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Olinsky & Associates, PLLC, which does business as Olinsky Law Group (“Olinsky”), regarding its recent data breach. The Olinsky data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Olinsky is a law firm based in New York. Since its founding, Olinsky has specialized in disability law, including Social Security disability and long-term disability. Today, Olinsky is one of the largest filers of Social Security Disability Federal Court cases in the United States, and to date has written over 15,000 Appeals Council briefs and filed more than 2,500 appeal cases.3,4 Headquartered in Syracuse, New York, Olinsky has an additional location in Orlanda, Florida.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Olinsky reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on January 28, 2025, Olinsky discovered that unauthorized criminal actors had gained access to some of its electronic systems.1 As a result, Olinsky launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Olinsky confirmed that sensitive personal information in files on a shared hard drive on its network may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Olinsky began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number (full or partial)
  • Account information
  • Financial information (including full or partial bank account information)
  • Medical information
  • Disability-payment information

 

On January 30, 2025, Olinsky provided initial notice to impacted individuals via email. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Olinsky is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
