F.tech was established in Soka, Saitama Prefecture, in 1947 as a manufacturer of metal toys.2 By 1959, the company had started a partnership with Honda and over the decades has expanded its global footprint, establishing R&D and manufacturing subsidiaries in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, China, and Europe.2 In April 2003, F.tech R&D North America, Inc. was established in Troy, Ohio, when F.tech began expanding R&D services for Honda in North America.2 Today, F.tech R&D offers a variety of chassis systems for the automotive industry, such as subframes, suspension control arms, and control systems such as pedal assembles.3 Headquartered in Troy, Ohio, F.tech R&D has two additional locations in Michigan and Germany, and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, F.tech R&D reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. In the sample breach notice provided to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, F.tech R&D does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On March 7, 2025, F.tech R&D began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, F.tech R&D is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
