WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Bassford Remele announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on September 4, 2024, Bassford Remele learned that unauthorized emails were sent from a third-party application purporting to be from an employee’s email account.1 As a result, Bassford Remele launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Bassford Remele confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between July 29, 2024, and September 4, 2024. As a result, Bassford Remele began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account information
  • Taxpayer information
  • Date of death
  • Provider name
  • Medical record information
  • Treatment and diagnosis information
  • Health insurance information

 

On December 27, 2024, Bassford Remele posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Bassford Remele is sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Bassford Remele is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
