JDC is an equipment and service provider for municipalities, the industrial cleaning, utility construction, gas and oil markets.2 Founded in 1973, JDC grew through a strong selection of offerings in sewer cleaning, street sweeping, pipeline inspection, and eventually utility solutions as well.3 Today, JDC offers service solutions, heavy-duty equipment rentals, over 300,000 parts, tools, instruments, and accessories, and sales solutions.4 Headquartered in Northville, Michigan, JDC has 16 locations across the United States and Canada, and employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, JDC reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, in 2024 JDC discovered unusual activity in its network. 1 As a result, JDC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, in early December 2024, JDC confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party in late February 2024. As a result, JDC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Tax information
- Payroll statements
- Driver’s license or other government identification number
- Bank or financial information
On January 24, 2025, JDC began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, JDC is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
