WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, SRMHW posted notice on its website saying that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on November 26, 2024, SRMHW discovered technical issues in its network. 1 As a result, SRMHW launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, SRMHW confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed or exfiltrated by an unauthorized third party. Beyond this, the SRMHW breach notice does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. While SRMHW has not disclosed the specific type of information impacted, the breach notice stated that certain individuals’ protected health information may have been compromised. Additionally, on January 24, 2025, SRMHW filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights, whose reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information.
