Founded in 1984, InterCon has evolved from mainly gas distribution to offering a range of services.2 Today, InterCon’s services include oil and gas pipelines, facility management, horizontal directional drilling, overhead and electric services, telecommunications, and utility design work.2 Headquartered in Waunakee, Wisconsin, InterCon employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, InterCon reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on November 19, 2024, InterCon became aware of a cyber security incident in its network.1 As a result, InterCon launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, InterCon confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between November 9 and November 20, 2024. As a result, InterCon began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On January 30, 2025, InterCon began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Maine residents, InterCon is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
