Cascade Funding Services Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Southwest Stage Funding, LLC, which does business as Cascade Funding Services or Cascade Land-Home Financing (“Cascade”), regarding its recent data breach. The Cascade data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 5,500 individuals.

Cascade is a mortgage lender based in Arizona. Founded in 1999, Cascade specializes in the manufactured home lending industry, offering a range of products such as flexible construction and home-only loan programs.2 Today, Cascade’s purchase and loan options include FHA loans, VA loans, construction to permanent loans, Chattel loans, and more.3 Headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, Cascade has additional locations in Texas and Florida, and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Cascade reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on July 9, 2024, Cascade became aware of suspicious activity related to certain employee email accounts.1 As a result, Cascade launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Cascade confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party through its email environment between July 8 and July 9, 2024. As a result, Cascade began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 31, 2024, Cascade completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social security number
  • Driver’s license number

 

On January 16, 2025, Cascade began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Cascade is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
