Roseland Community Hospital Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Roseland Community Hospital Association (“RCH”) regarding its recent data breach. The RCH data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT ROSELAND COMMUITY HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION:

RCH is a healthcare provider based in Illinois. Founded in 1924, RCH offers a variety of comprehensive healthcare services to residents of Chicago’s far South Side neighborhoods.3 Today, these services include emergency care, acute care, behavioral health, dental, diagnostic imaging, OB-GYN, pharmacy services, surgical services, and more.4 Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, RCH employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, RCH announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on June 2, 2024, RCH became aware of unusual activity within its IT environment.1 As a result, RCH launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, RCH confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party during the incident. As a result, RCH began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On October 21, 2024, RCH completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Financial information
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record numbers, patient account numbers, diagnosis, treatment information, lab results, medications, provider name, dates of treatment)
  • Health insurance information

 

As a result of the data breach, RCH posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, between August 1, 2024, and November 12, 2024, RCH mailed breach notification letters to patients whose information was impacted as a result of the breach. Based on the website breach notice, RCH is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
