ATR is a is an information technology consulting, staffing, and placement organization based in Maryland.2 Founded in 2002, ATR’s talent acquisition services include direct or permanent hire, temp to perm or contract to hire, defined period of performance, long term contract staffing, payroll services, vendor management services, and recruitment process outsourcing.2 Additionally, ATR performs background checks such as employment history, credit, criminal, and drug screening, and verifies candidates security clearance for businesses.3 Headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, ATR employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ATR reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on August 11, 2024, ATR learned that certain files on its computer systems were locked by a computer virus.1 As a result, ATR launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ATR confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party on August 10, 2024. As a result, ATR began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On or around December 5, 2024, ATR completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by ATR. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or other government identification number
- Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
On December 17, 2024, ATR began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, ATR is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
