WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Pi Kappa Phi announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around February 3, 2024, Pi Kappa Phi experienced unauthorized access to its network.1 As a result, Pi Kappa Phi launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on November 21, 2024, Pi Kappa Phi discovered that sensitive personal information may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party.1 As a result, Pi Kappa Phi began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number or state identification number
- Taxpayer identification number
- Digital signature
- Email login and password
- Financial account and/or banking information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, Pi Kappa Phi posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on December 2, 2024, Pi Kappa Phi began mailing individual breach notification letters affected individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Pi Kappa Phi is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
