WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Northern Safety reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on June 7, 2024, Northern Safety became aware of suspicious activity directed towards its network.1 As a result, Northern Safety launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Northern Safety discovered that sensitive personal information belonging to current and former employees may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party. As a result, Northern Safety began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Contact information, such as address, email address, and phone number
- Employer information related to benefits enrollment
- Beneficiary information
On November 25, 2024, Northern Safety began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Northern Safety is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complementary credit monitoring services.
