The MFM data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

MFM is a women’s healthcare practice based in New York. Founded in 2004, MFM provides a complete array of OB-GYN services ranging from routine obstetrical and gynecologic studies to evaluating and offering counsel on the most complex prenatal conditions.4 Today, the services offered by MFM include prenatal care and deliveries to both high-risk pregnancy and low-risk patients, well women’s GYN care throughout patients’ reproductive lifetimes, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, diagnostic obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound, diagnostic testing and procedures (CVS, Amniocentesis, Fetal Echocardiography, Saline Infusion Sonohysterograms), genetic counseling, and more.5 Headquartered in New York, New York, MFM has an additional location in New York City and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MFM announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on September 16, 2024, MFM became aware of suspicious activity affecting certain systems within its computer network.1 As a result, MFM launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MFM discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between July 30, 2024, and September 16, 2024. As a result, MFM began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Bank account information
- Credit card information
- Medical information (e.g., clinical diagnosis/conditions, lab results, medications)
As a result of the data breach, MFM posted a notice of the incident on its website and will be mailing notices to affected individuals. Based on the website breach notice, MFM is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
