LCPtracker is a software development company based in California. Founded in 2001, LCPtracker provides data tracking and management software solutions which facilitate Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage compliance on publicly funded construction projects.3 Today, LCPtracker’s cloud-based compliance solutions assist government agencies, project owners, and contractors with improved visibility into certified payroll, construction site compliance, and workforce demographic data.3 Headquartered in Orange, California, LCPtracker has three additional locations in California, Texas, Missouri, and Michigan, and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, LCPtracker reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around August 20, 2024, LCPtracker became aware of suspicious activity within its online storage account environment.1 As a result, LCPtracker launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, LCPtracker discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between August 14 and August 20, 2024. As a result, LCPtracker began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by LCPtracker. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, California identification card number, tax identification number, passport number, military identification number, or other unique identification number issued on a government document commonly used to verify the identity of a specific individual
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Unique biometric data generated from measurements or technical analysis of human body characteristics, such as a fingerprint, retina, or iris image
- Genetic data
On November 22, 2024, LCPtracker began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, LCPtracker is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
