Founded in 1984, Montlick handles a wide range of cases related to personal injury, including auto, truck, and motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents, drunk driving and DUI accidents, workers’ compensation, job injuries, slip and fall accidents, products liability, medical malpractice, and more.2 To date, Montlick’s settlements total $65 million for medical malpractice, $14 million for auto accident wrongful death, $8.5 million for tractor-trailer collision, and more.3 Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Montlick employs approximately 170 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Montlick reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on September 2, 2024, Montlick identified malicious activity in its computer network. As a result, Montlick launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Montlick discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and copied by an unauthorized third party between August 15 and August 27, 2024. As a result, Montlick began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On October 7, 2024, Montlick completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
On November 4, 2024, Montlick began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Montlick is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
