WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Child Care Circuit reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about March 18, 2024, Child Care Circuit became aware of suspicious activity related to certain employee email accounts.1 As a result, Child Care Circuit launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Child Care Circuit discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party using two employee email accounts between March 15 and March 18, 2024. As a result, Child Care Circuit began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On October 2, 2024, Child Care Circuit completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Financial information (e.g., financial account information, credit or debit card information)

On or about October 30, 2024, Child Care Circuit began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Child Care Circuit is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
