Founded in 1972, VWGC offers a wide variety of custom structures supporting all facets of the horticulture industry.2 Additionally, VWGC offers consulting, custom design and installation of all the modern greenhouse systems, including shade/energy retention curtain systems, benching systems, heating systems, interior and exterior walls, and doors.3 Today, VWGC customers account for nearly 650 acres of production horticultural greenhouses across the United States.4 VWGC is headquartered in Mills River, North Carolina.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, VWGC reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around January 20, 2024, VWGC experienced a cybersecurity incident that impacted connectivity to its network.1 As a result, VWGC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, VWGC confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party between January 3 and January 22, 2024. As a result, VWGC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On October 25, 2024, VWGC began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to Maine residents, VWGC is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
