Woodloch Pines Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Woodloch Pines and the Lodge at Woodloch (collectively, “Woodloch Properties”) regarding its recent data breach. The Woodloch Properties data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 5,000 individuals.

ABOUT WOODLOCH PINES AND THE LODGE AT WOODLOCH:

Woodloch Pines is a resort in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1958, Woodloch Pines is a family resort offering a variety of activities and amenities, including guest rooms and rental houses, dining and meal plans, pools, boat tours, climbing walls, go carts, and over 30 scheduled activities per day.3 Additionally, Woodloch Pines features the Lodge at Woodloch. Founded in 2006, the Lodge at Woodloch is a destination spa featuring 58 finely appointed guestrooms and suites, a 40,000-square-foot Spa, dining, outdoor adventures, complete fitness programs, and educational forums.4 Today, both Woodloch Pines and the Lodge at Woodloch are headquartered in Hawley, Pennsylvania and combined employ over 700 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Woodloch Properties reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around May 4, 2024, Woodloch Properties became aware of suspicious activity within its network. As a result, Woodloch Properties launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Woodloch Properties discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party. As a result, Woodloch Properties began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On October 3, 2024, Woodloch Properties completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Passport number
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

On October 18, 2024, Woodloch Properties began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Woodloch Properties is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
