Clayton Properties Group Data Breach Investigation

Founded in 2015, Clayton offers traditional site-built homes and off-site built housing – including modular homes, manufactured homes, CrossMod™ homes, tiny homes, college dormitories, military barracks and apartments.2 In 2019, Clayton built 51,964 homes across the country.2 Today, Clayton Properties Group is the site-built division of Clayton Home Building Group and includes Chafin Communities, Goodall Homes, Summit Homes, Oakwood Homes, Harris Doyle Homes, Brohn Homes, Arbor Homes and Mungo Homes.2 Headquartered in Maryville, Tennessee, Clayton employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Clayton reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, one of Clayton’s vendors recently experienced a data breach that impacted data belonging to Clayton. Beyond this, Clayton does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license number
  • Individual taxpayer identification number

 

On October 11, 2024, Clayton began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Clayton is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
