Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating ADT, Inc., regarding its recent data breach. The ADT data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT ADT, INC.:

ADT is a security technology company based in Florida. Founded in 1874, ADT offers a wide range of home security products to individuals, including cameras, alarms, door and window sensors, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and smart home technology to protect residences. Additionally, ADT provides similar products and services to businesses such as monitored intrusion detection, smart security, video surveillance, access control, video verification, and fire protection and monitoring. Headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, ADT employs more than 13,000 individuals across over 150 locations throughout the United States.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

On October 2, 2024, ADT reported to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, ADT recently detected unauthorized activity within its computer network, and discovered an unauthorized actor had illegally accessed its network using compromised credentials obtained through a third-party business partner.1 Upon becoming aware of the issue, ADT launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Based on its investigation to date, ADT believes the unauthorized actor exfiltrated certain encrypted internal ADT data associated with employee user accounts during the intrusion.1 ADT’s containment measures have resulted in some disruptions to its information systems, and its investigation is at an early stage and ongoing.1 As of October 8, 2024, the exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by ADT. A link to the form breach notification that ADT filed with the SEC is below.
